Want to learn how to create layered SVG files for Cricut?

By the end of this short tutorial, you will learn how to do just that!

Rule of Thumb

The number of colors in your final design is the number of layers you will need to make. For example, if you want to make a new layered SVG with 3 colors, you will need to make 3 separate layers of the original design.

What is Contour on Cricut Design Space

Contour is a tool that allows you to turn on and off parts of a layer. It does this by filling in (turning on) or making invisible (turning off) the piece that you click. The contour will do the opposite of the original layer.

For example, if a piece of the design is transparent, the contour tool will fill that with a solid black and this is what allows you to now color that part of the image.

The opposite is also true. If you click a part of the image that is solid black, it will make it transparent and remove it from the layer.

How to Contour On Cricut

  1. Click on the single-layer image that you want to contour.
  2. Click the contour button.
  3.  Click the area that you want to color.
  4. Click back on the canvas.
